‘Growing Food in Schools’ Training Pack
On the 31st March the Regional School Food & Health Coordinator ran a training session for teaching staff from 15 schools in Surrey designed to support them in starting growing projects in their schools.
The training session was run as an introduction to the benefits of food growing projects in schools that promote healthy eating, physical exercise and increased knowledge about where our food comes from in schools. It will also give basic, practical information for school staff that may have little or no previous experience of growing activities.
The workshop will provided an overview of:
• information and funding support available to schools
• practical ‘dos and don’ts of setting up a growing project
• effective ways to link schemes such as the Sustainable Schools and Eco Schools to the Healthy Schools Standard
